GWR Route: Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch

Great Alne Station: gwrga799a

Close up of image 'gwrga799' looking towards Alcester in 1947 showing Great Alne station and platform opposite the P&W huts. In the distance the level crossing gates remained permanently shut as the track from this point had been disused for ten years (see 'gwrga802'). There was no signal box at Great Alne, but on the opposite side of track from the platform are two small lineside huts. The first hut contained the five-lever West Ground Frame. Two levers controlled the goods yard loop point work seen in the foreground of this picture and the other three levers controlled the level crossing gate bolts and the up and down distance signals. The black painted hut contained the lineside telephone equipment. The two-lever East Ground Frame was situated at the other end of the goods yard (see 'gwrga796a').
