Henley in Arden - Original Station: gwrha1421

Looking along the station approach with Henley-in-Arden's original passenger station on the right and the goods yard and shed directly ahead in 1949. Whilst the passenger station had only a short working life serving the needs of passengers its later use as the station master's house did extend the usefulness of the building. The goods yard and shed did however have a much longer working life, just short of seventy years. The goods traffic was primarily inwards of coal, feedstuffs and occasionally wheat seed. Coal was handled by local merchants, Thomas Hood Truelove and Thomas Anker both being listed at the time of the opening of the new station. Later, just before the First World War, James Weston and Percy Bishop were listed at Henley-in-Arden whilst in the 1920s Eric Newcombe was also known to be trading from offices in the High Street.
