GWR Route: Birmingham and Henley in Arden Railway
Company
Lapworth to Henley in Arden Branch Line: gwrha2820
The site of Henley in Arden's North Warwickshire station
looking in the direction of Birmingham circa 1906. The rake of contractor's
wagons are standing on what would become the down main with evidence on their
left of some brickwork being erected to form the face of platform 2. All of the
visible trackwork is the contractor's 'temporary' railway formed using flat
bottom rail spiked to roughly hewn timber (as portrayed by television and film
when showing American Railways being built in the 1800s). The term 'Permanent
Way' used by railways was to differentiate between the contractor's track and
the track laid to form the railways.
