Henley in Arden - Original Station: gwrha656
View of Henley-in-Arden's now abandoned goods yard showing
the timber storage sheds to the right of the white timber structure. Its three
years since the closure of the goods yard on 31st December 1964 and there is
still some evidence of the railway the most obvious being the 5 ton
hand-operated derrick crane standing in the middle of the yard. A weighbridge
was also located in this area to weigh goods into and out of the yard. The
piles of coal and coke seem to indicate that the yard is still being used by
the local coal merchants although in this instance the coal was brought in by
road. Coal brought in by rail or road would be placed in one cwt bags (cwt is
short for 100 weight equivalent to 50.8 kilos) to be transhipped to the homes
and businesses in the Henley-in-Arden area.
