GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

GWR 28xx Class 2-8-0 No 2810 is seen heading a Class D down express freight service on Hatton Bank. A Class D headlamp code in this instance described an 'Express freight or ballast train conveying a stipulated number of vacuum braked vehicles connected by the vacuum pipe to the engine and authorised to run at a maximum speed of 35 mph.' Built at Swindon works in October 1905 No 2810 remained in service until August 1959 when it was withdrawn from 86J Aberdare shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Newport.
