GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Hockley Station: gwrhd3892
An official photograph of the Hockley Goods Outwards and
Transfer Shed taken prior to the reconstruction work which started in 1938. On
the right is the Power Station and Pump Turbine Hall where water was pumped
from an artisan well to supply all the water requirements of the Great Western
Railway between Hockley and Tyseley Locomotive Shed. Details of this private
water main can be found at 'gwrhd3891'. Within the
fenced area a short siding originally ran alongside the Power Station, which
presumably was provided to deliver fuel directly to the Power Station, but once
electric pumps had been installed this facility was no longer required and the
siding can be seen truncated outside the fence in this photograph.
