GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd699
Looking along Platform 2 southwards towards Birmingham Snow
Hill with a GWR water crane seen on the right. This view looking south towards
Birmingham Snow Hill was taken in the last few years of the station's service.
The Round yard is on the left whilst Top shed is seen on the right. Of note is
the mini coal bunker used to store the coal for the brazier (or Fire Devil as
it was also known as) which would be sited adjacent to the water column (the
bottom of which can just be seen on the right) and beneath the arm when at
rest. The water was turned on or off by what appears to be a handle more
frequently found on locomotive. The platform lamps are unusual being so tall
with ladders fitted to either side of the post with stand on top.
