A Great Western Railway Karrier Cob Mechanical Horse acting
as the 'Chain Horse' in Pitsford Street with a two horse tilt van. The Karrier
Cob was built for the railway companies by Clayton & Co of Huddersfield
from 1929 onwards. It was based on a three wheeled dustcart vehicle called the
Karrier Colt, which had been built for Huddersfield Corporation. In 1934
Karrier became part of the Rootes group and production moved to Luton. The
Karrier Cob had a two-cylinder 7hp engine with chain-drive reduction gearing.
The three wheeled chassis gave it a tight turning circle making it suitable for
Goods Yards which had been designed for horse drawn transport.
