Inside 'Top' shed looking southwards along decks 2, 3 and 4 from the windows of the new elevated Invoice Office (seen in image 'gwrhd679') on 2nd May 1940. Destination boards were a combination of permanent signs suspended from the ceiling and temporary signs placed at the beginning of the deck and halfway along. The latter can be seen in the bottom right of the photograph with chalked destinations on the board. The porters placed their goods along side the relevant wagon's door as seen in the photograph. When wrongly delivered the goods were placed at the end of the deck to be cleared later. The coal wagon was sited here, the nearest place to the boiler room, which was located under the decks at this end of the shed.
