GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd725b
Close up of image 'gwrhd725' showing some of the facilities
which the GWR made available to support operations within Hockley goods yard.
Between the sidings are two timber structures provided for staff working the
yard. The nearest structure appears to be an old grounded five compartment
carriage with a stove pipe protruding through the centre of the roof in the
space previously provided for an oil lamp. A partially covered rack complete
with shunter's poles is fixed to the end panel. Sitting on a bench seat on the
left of the former carriage body is one of the shunters enjoying a well earned
rest. On the opposite side of the structure is one or more bicycles. Behind
this structure is a hut which, due to the number of windows, would appear to be
an office used by the yard's supervisors and foremen. In front of the hut is a
neat row of rail chairs which would be used to replace ad-hoc damaged
chairs.
