View from Pitsford Street of the damage to Hockley's offices caused by the air raid on 12th December 1940. The office block was a three storey structure with one floor being below the ground level of Hockley Goods Depot. The road level floor therefore needed to be both strong enough to carry the two other floors but to also act as a retaining wall for the built up ground within the goods yard. The use of a vaulted ceiling to provide such strength can be seen above. The gated remains of the entrance on the left led through to the bonded stores where alcohol and tobacco were stored until required for delivery. The southern part of the offices whilst seemingly intact were classified as unsafe and the block required extensive work before it could be used again.
