GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd749
The Farm area outside of the main offices on 12th February
1940 with all kinds of GWR transport on show. The demolition of the old Outward
and Tranship shed and construction of the Top shed caused significant problems
to logistics including parking of transport. In a scene more reminiscent of a
war film showing abandoned lorries left by fleeing soldiers, the yard's
transport lies strewn in front of the main office block. The dusting of snow
shows that the winter is still evident two months into the new year. On the
right in the foreground is a one-horse flat trolley loaded with a small
container. This wagon has no driver facilities or canvas cover. There was no
brake on these horse drawn wagons, but a drag shoe for choking the wheels can
be seen hanging on a chain under the wagon. Behind this wagon can be seen a two
ton Ford model B chassis with a low sided flat body.
