A larger scale 1937 Ordnance Survey map showing Hall Green station and its extensive goods yard. Just visible is the station approach which was off Stratford Road. Welby Road, which ran on the opposite side of the station's main building, was at a higher level then the station approach consequently the passenger footbridge which bridged the two platforms was extended directly to Welby Road without the need for steps. The goods yard was equipped with a three ton manually operated fixed position crane to off-load the heavier items. Opposite the goods yard, accessed by the turnout adjacent to the signal box, are the sidings used by the steel stockholding company.

The Motor Cycle Works was the home to Velocette motorbikes made by Veloce Ltd. One of several motorcycle manufacturers in Birmingham, Velocette was a small, family-owned firm, selling far fewer hand-built motorcycles than the mass-produced machines of the giant BSA, Norton or Triumph concerns. Renowned for the quality of its products, the company was associated best with international motorcycle racing, from the mid-1920s through the 1950s, culminating in two World Championship titles (1949–1950 in the 350 cc category) and its legendary and still-unbeaten (for single-cylinder, 500 cc machines) 24 hours at 100 mph (161 km/h) record.
