GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hatton Station: gwrhj4002
Extract from the Great Western Railway Public Timetable for
July, August and September 1887, showing the passenger trains on the Hatton to
Stratford-on-Avon and Bearley to Alcester lines.
The main service runs between Leamington and Worcester, but
a number of these services terminated at Stratford-on-Avon. The timetable also
shows previous and onward connections in all directions. At this stage the
north curve was unavailable, so passengers from Birmingham Snow Hill to
Stratford-on-Avon had to change at Hatton Station. Stopping at Hatton would add
to journey times, so three up express trains from Birmingham detached a slip
carriage at Hatton (10:30am, 4:18pm and 5:38pm) instead. This carriage would be
attached to the next Leamington to Stratford-on-Avon train when it arrived at
Hatton. Two trains from Birmingham neither stopped at Hatton nor detached a
slip carriage there and these required passengers for Stratford-on-Avon to
continue to Warwick Station where they needed to alit and change to the
Leamington to Stratford-on-Avon train. In the reverse direction down trains
from London Paddington stopped at Leamington where passengers would be advised
to change to the local train for Stratford-on-Avon. One exception was the
afternoon express from Paddington to Birmingham, which detached a slip carriage
at Leamington (6:58pm). This was attached to the next Stratford-on-Avon
train.
