GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Knowle & Dorridge Station: gwrkd119
GWR 4-6-0 No 4088 'Dartmouth Castle' is seen at the head of
an up express having just left Knowle and Dorridge en-route to Lapworth. Built
at Swindon works in July 1925 it was first allocated to Laira shed in Plymouth.
It was involved in an accident with GWR 4-6-0 Saint class No 2975 'Lord Palmer'
on 13th November 1942 at Appleford Crossing. It received both a double chimney
and a 4 row superheater in May 1958 and remained in service until it was
withdrawn from Saint Philip's Marsh shed in May 1964.
