GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Knowle & Dorridge: gwrkd1595
Original Birmingham and Oxford Junction Railway three arch
brick over bridges were designed to cross double mixed gauge track. This one
south of Knowle and Dorridge yard shows the generous proportions available once
standard gauge was adopted. The lapped timber building on the left protected
the ground frame levers and was installed in November 1925, when the goods yard
was modified with an extra siding and a cattle dock provided. This scene
completely changed in 1932 when the line between Olton and Lapworth was
quadrupled.
