GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Knowle & Dorridge: gwrkd2800
Postcard depicting Station Approach, Dorridge before the
First World War. Prior to the railway arriving in 1852, the area was mainly
farmland with a few scattered dwellings. The provision of a station here was a
condition of the local landowners, the Muntz family who lived at Umberslade
Hall. Within a few years of the station opening, Dorridge had grown into a
sizable community with new houses, shops, Dorridge Grove Asylum, and St
Phillip's Church (1878).
