GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Leamington Spa - GWR Locomotives: gwrls191

A pair of GWR engines are seen just about to cross Lower Avenue bridge prior to arriving at Leamington station circa 1930s. There are six bridges in this area: one crossing the Warwick to Napton canal by Ashgrove Place now replaced by part of a light industrial estate; another crossing Althorpe Street; the next crosses Court Street; followed by the High/Bath/Clemens Street junction; another crosses over Bath place and finally the last one crossing Lower Avenue. The buildings which can be seen to the right of the picture are on High Street (north side and only the far building exist today) whilst the buildings that can be seen between the Signal Box and the set of signals are of the rear of Bath street (West side). it is thought that the picture was taken from the old hand cart path which still runs up to the platform from the car park and taxi rank.
