British Railways Type 4 D1698 is seen 'wrong road' on the up fast line being used on a driver training special on 24th March 1964. The Brush Type 4s (later Class 47s) were introduced on the Western Region in October 1963 with the first locomotives being allocated to Old Oak Common and Bristol. Proving to be excellent machines the class soon displaced the Western class (Class 52) on many of the services between Wolverhampton and Paddington. D1698 was built by Brush at Loughborough in December 1963 and following being renumbered as 47110 was to remain in service until May 1989 when it was withdrawn from Sheffield Tinsley.
