GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa - BR Locomotives: gwrls2048
British Railways built Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No 46420, running tender
first on a short goods train, crosses on to the down loop line. Built by Crewe
works in November 1948, No 46420 is recorded as being withdrawn from Nuneaton
shed in January 1965 to be scrapped in March 1965 by J Cashmore's of Great
Bridge. However as Richard's photo was taken on 13th March 1965 their must have
been an error in the compilation of the records. Richard writes I'm pretty
certain of the date, the negative is on a roll of film I used on an SLS/MLS
trip to Whitby on 6 March 1965. This raises the possibility that I wrongly
recorded the number. I have looked in my notebook on that date and I wrote down
46420p (meaning I photographed it). I must say it looks in too good a condition
to be ready for scrapping.
