GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa - BR Locomotives: gwrls2107
An unidentified ex-GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 locomotive enters the
road to the up platform on 3rd September 1955. The train reporting number seen
on the smokebox door '923' indicates its the 7:35 am Birkenhead to Ramsgate
service , with the front half going to Ramsgate via Deal and the rear half to
Margate via Canterbury West, running via Reading (New Junction) onto the
Southern Region, and scheduled for that region's rolling stock. The train was
scheduled to stand at Leamington from 11:17 am to 11:21 am. On the left is an
unidentified ex-GWR 60xx Class 4-6-0 'King' locomotive standing at the head of
a down express to Birkenhead. The King Class locomotive is probably at the head
of the 9:10 am Paddington to Birkenhead, itself due to stand at Leamington from
11:07 am to 11:12 am. a service rostered to be hauled by a King Class
locomotive.
