GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa Station: gwrls2135a
Close up of image 'gwrls2135' showing on the left the stairs to
the subway and on the right a box containing train indicator signs. Train
indicator signs were used in the pre-digital era to advise passengers of the
destination and some times the timings of trains leaving the platform. The box
contained a sign for every service departing the platform with the final
destination in large letters and intermediate stops in smaller letters. The
sign would be placed in a bracket located at the top of the staff which was
fixed centrally within the box. An example of a train indicator with clocks can
be seen in action during British Railway's day at the former LNWR's
Coventry station.
