View showing the excavation work required to construct both the down platform, the three storey station building and the station forecourt. The photograph shows the depth of excavation required to construct the forecourt in comparison to the level of the original structure. The nearest remaining part of the original structure to the camera housed the ladies waiting room and lavatories whilst behind it the refreshment room can be seen. As can be seen, the original building and the down platform were not very wide.
