GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Shed: gwrls230b
Close up of image 'gwrls230' showing one of the GWR's steel
'loco' wagons standing empty with the doors in the open position. The doors
were designed to be of a similar width to the coal tipping tubs that ran at
90° to the wagon to the locomotive. A rake of wagons would be pushed up the
embankment when full and positioned with the last wagon being opposite the
coaling tub. When the first half of the loco coal wagon was empty it would be
moved forward using gravity so that the other half load could be off-loaded.
This process would be repeated until all of the wagons had been emptied.
