Aerial view of northern approach to Leamington in 1949, with the link line at the top of the photograph. The ex-GWR locomotive depot is on the left, but only the coaling stage with water tank above and the three coal storage sidings are visible. Adjacent to the ex-LMS line as it crosses the canal is the Malthouse building with its disused private siding route still evident. A trailing connection to the main line protected by a head-shunt gave access to this private siding. The switches for this and a trailing cross-over on the main line were controlled by ‘LUCAS SIDING‘ Signal Box. This was located on the opposite side of the tracks at the bottom of the photograph. The signal box was known to have been in operation prior to 1896, but was closed and demolished in July 1908 following the opening of the nearby ‘LEAMINGTON G W JTN’ signal box. The private siding was removed on 10th November 1931.
