GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa - Grouping Locomotives: gwrls886
GWR 4-4-0 Atbara class No 4130 'Omdurman' stands in the down
main at Leamington waiting to take the next train forward April 1927. John
Copsey speculates that the varied use of 'express headlamps' meant that No 4130
could have been used for a number of purposes including taking a slip coach to
Stratford upon Avon, assisting an express up the banks of Hatton or taking over
a semi-fast express. Built at Swindon works in July 1900 No 4130 remained in
service for another three years after this photograph was taken being retired
in April 1930 from Didcot shed for scrapping by Swindon works.
