GWR 4-6-0 Castle class No 100 'A1 Lloyds' is seen arriving at the up platform with an express for London

GWR 4-6-0 Castle class No 100 'A1 Lloyds' is seen arriving at the up platform with an express for London circa 1936. The locomotive was originally re-built from a 'Star' class engine, No 4009 'Shooting Star', at Swindon in April 1925, and carried the same name and number. It was first allocated to Plymouth Laira shed. It was then later renamed and numbered in January 1936 (as seen above) and therefore the photograph must have been taken shortly after it was overhauled. It remained in service until May 1950 when it was withdrawn from Old Oak Common shed.
