GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour

Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm3068a

Close up of image 'gwrmm3068' showing the main building accommodating the booking hall and station masters' office nearest the camera. The signal on the left is a slotted-post three-position semaphore signal and probably dates from the opening of the line. The left signal arm (all red with a white vertical stripe) controlling the down line and the right arm (all white with a black vertical stripe) controlling the up line. The colours would be reversed when viewed from the otherside of the signal. Mark Turner writes in an article in the British Railway Journal No 29 Christmas 1989,' the fenced paddocks in the foreground became the cattle market sale yard in 1923 and continued as such until its closure in 1956'. The reverse side of the station's running in board (or name board) can be seen in front of the smaller of the two station buildings.
