GWR Route: Moreton-in-Marsh to Shipston-on-Stour
Moreton-in-Marsh Station: gwrmm986a
Close up of the main station building showing the entrance
to the station master's office and luggage carts on the platform on 6th October
1951. Of particular interest is the distinctive feature of the then newly
introduced Great Western Railway standard design, namely the treatment of doors
and windows. Jenkins and Carpenter in their book 'The Shipston-on-Stour
Branch' write 'the windows which were grouped in pairs beneath large
arc-shaped concrete lintels, and in this context it is interesting to note that
Radley station, built at the same time as Moreton, had conventional square
window lintels in a design otherwise similar to Moreton.'
