View of a demonstration showing how wagons are moved by
using a combination of powered and dumb capstans in conjunction with wire
ropes. The wagon, which is the same seen in image 'gwrms1211', has a wire rope
attached to a chain which in turn is fastened to an axle guard. The railway
worker operates a lever which turns the powered capstan to pull the wagon
forward. If the wagon needed pulling away from the powered capstan the wire
rope would have been passed around a dumb capstan ahead of the wagon before
fastening it to the wagon.
