A 1914 view of the passenger terminus at Moor Street with a local suburban train adjacent to the traverser table at the end of island platform No. 2. Construction is underway on the third bay platform, which was finally completed in 1915. At this end of the platforms were water cranes and the starting signals. The new starting signal seen here on a tapering square section wooden post topped with a typical Great Western Railway final, has the semaphore arm marked with large crossed boards indicating that it is not currently in use (rule 75). On the other side of the signal post from the arm can be seen the lamp, which at night will shine through one of the coloured aspect lens (either red or green) depending upon the semaphore arm's position. The ladders and platforms on the signal post provide safe access for staff to light the lamp. Lower on the post is a black box, which is the back of a mechanically operated route indicator board. This had sliding diaphragms baring indications, which could be illuminated from behind when in the raised position. This particular route indicator had two sliding diaphragms labelled as follows:
Up Relief – controlled by lever 5
Up Goods - controlled by lever 20
