A grimy Great Western Railway designed 2-6-2T large prairie No 4161 of the 51xx class on a three coach suburban passenger train accelerates past Moor Street station as the locomotive descends the up main line after alighting from Snow Hill tunnel. The 180 yard long down line sand drag troughs can be seen on the adjacent line. No 4161 was built at Swindon Works after nationalisation in September 1948 as part of lot 369. This class of locomotives was designed for suburban passenger traffic with the prototype being built in 1903. With minor alterations the basic design continued to be constructed for forty six years. Initially allocated to Barry shed (88C) in south Wales, No 4161 was known to be still allocated there in August 1950. In March 1959 No 4161 was known to be allocated at Wolverhampton Stafford Road shed (84A), while in May 1965 was allocated at Worcester shed (85A). No 4161 was finally withdrawn in November 1965, from Worcester shed and disposed of in July 1966 to J. Cashmore at Newport.
