GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Olton Station: gwro2154
Looking towards Birmingham from the Solihull end of the
relief island platform in British Railways days. The relief island platform
accommodated a much larger building than that seen on the main island platform
as this was where most of the passengers commuting to Birmingham would start
and end their journeys. The flower bed at the base of the station was typical
of many stations, irrespective of what railway company was operating it.
Competitions for the best kept station were common throughout the UK's railway
network and were indicative of the pride station staff showed in their
work.
