GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

The Birmingham branch of the Social & Educational Union
arranged both Tennis and Cricket matches at the sports ground at Olton. This
cutting from the Great Western Railway Magazine of July 1925 shows the numbers
of staff involved in a tennis tournament. In addition, an annual All
Lines Competitions was held in various sports (including Tennis and
Cricket). This was a knock-out completion with matches taking place between
different branches of the union during the summer. An example found in the 1928
Magazine records the following details in the July and August issues:
