GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Olton Station: gwro4013

View of the newly constructed lattice girder bridge over the Warwick Road, Solihull, just south of Olton station

On Sunday 25th March 1934 bridge tests were carried out on the recently quadrupled Great Western Railway’s main line. The photograph shows the newly constructed lattice girder bridge over the Warwick Road, Solihull, just south of Olton station (at location 123m 73c). There are numerous engineers with deflection rods under the nearside running lines. This view of the Warwick Road bridge is looking towards Birmingham. Compare this structure with the previous Brunel bowed balloon top wrought iron plate girder bridge on 'gwro2698'.
