GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Rowington Junction & Troughs: gwrrj1004
GWR 4-6-0 King class No 6003 'King George IV' picks up water
whilst at the head of the down Paddington to Birkenhead service. Built at
Swindon works in July 1927 it was the locomotive which, because of the accident
at Midgham August 1927 when the bogie derailed, compelled the GWR to produce a
redesign of the springing of the bogie on the whole of 'King' class. In July
1958 it received its double chimney and remained in service until June 1962
when it was withdrawn from Canton shed in Cardiff to be scrapped by Swindon
works in August 1962.
