GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Rowington Junction & Troughs: gwrrj1937
GWR 2-6-0 No No 6385 heads a train of ex-SERC coaching stock
on a down service starting from the Kent coast circa 1933. Until the troughs
were opened in 1899 it was customary for trains to stop at Oxford or Leamington
to take on water. Afterwards non-stop trains would take on water at Rowington
and then Leamington could then be served by a slip coach. The locomotive was a
member of the 43xx class and was built by Robert Stephenson Limited to Lot E1
in August 1921 and was to remain in service until December 1963 when it was
withdrawn from 81E Didcot shed.
