GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Solihull Station: gwrs275
View of the original station looking in the direction of
Leamington from the Birmingham end of the down platform circa 1934. The wide
space between the two sets of tracks (normally described as the 'six foot') is
evidence that the original line was laid to broad gauge dimensions. Broad gauge
track was 7'-0¼" instead of 4'-8½" and required a space between
the two tracks similar to the distance found on standard gauge lines. After the
replacement of broad gauge track by standard gauge, as seen above, the distance
between the two tracks became greater.
