British Railways built 4-6-0 6959 class No 6995 'Benthall Hall' is seen on the 7:40am St Austell to Wolverhampton Saturdays Only service in 1957. The cattle wagons on the left are standing in the former SMJ sidings whilst the SMJ line to Broom was carried over the former GWR route by the bridge seen above. In the mid-1950s this service was scheduled for a Grange locomotive allocated to Laira shed returning with the 9:00am Wolverhampton to Plymouth service the following morning. However these arrangements were often arbitrary and subject to availability of locomotives on the day in question. Built at Swindon works to Lot 368 in December 1948 No 6995 remained in service until March 1965 when it was withdrawn from 85A Worcester shed to be scrapped in July 1965 by Birds of Long Marston.
