GWR Route: The North Warwickshire Line
GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Hatton
Stratford on Avon Station: gwrsa1503
An unidentified ex-GWR 4-6-0 Castle class locomotive is seen
arriving at Stratford on Avon at the head of the 9:15am Wolverhampton to
Penzance and Kingswear during the mid-1950s. This service was the successor to
the 10:00am service from Wolverhampton initiated in 1908, now called the
Cornishman, and which, apart from brief periods in wartime and after,
had run continuously ever since. Initially hauled by 4-4-0 classes, then 4-6-0
Saint classes, this service had been allocated to Castle class locomotives
since the early 1930s.
