GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Hatton

GWR 4-6-0 Castle class No 5001 'Llandovery Castle' is seen with the experimental eight wheeled 4000 gallon tender. The tender, No 2586, was built in 1931 and ran behind a number of locomotives including Nos 5919, 5001, 5032, 5071, 5049, 5017, 6951, 5068, 4043, 4093, 4918, 5957 and was withdrawn in November 1963 with Hall class 5904. The 4703 or Castle class locomotive was built by Swindon works to Lot 234 in September 1926, No 5001 was to remain in service until February 1963 when it was withdrawn from 81A Old Oak Common shed to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
