Ex-GWR 0-4-2T No 5815 is passing an ex-GWR 2251 class locomotive by the first pedestrian crossing joining Albany Road to Shottery fields on 15th June 1957. Locomotive No 5815 is seen in very clean condition with the first Bitish Railways ''cycling lion' motif on the tank sides. This was the first emblem adopted by British Railways, adopted in 1950 it was replaced in 1956 by the 'Ferret & Dartboard' crest which was used from 1956 to 1965. This is in stark contrast to its classmate No 5813 seen at Leamington wearing GWR livery but in a dirty condition. Built by Swindon works in August 1933, No 5815 was to remain in service until April 1964 when it was withdrawn from 82C Swindon shed to be scrapped.

This is a black and white reproduction of a colour slide too degraded to be restored. Colour images saved by Phillip Williams are available in 'TE Williams The Lost Colour Collection Volume 1' ISBN 978-1-911262-04-6 Irwell Press Limited.
