GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Honeybourne
Sancta Lane Station: gwrsanct3159
Looking south from Sanctus Road bridge towards the junction
with the former Stratford Midland Junction Railway during Sunday engineering
work circa 1935. The brick built 18 lever signal box on the left handled all
traffic exchange traffic. In the distance, just out sight, is the bridge
carrying the original East & West Junction Railway's line (the E&WJR
preceded the SMJ and later the LMS) to Broom, which had been granted its Royal
assent in 1873. The GWR had insisted that the bridge be built to span two lines
which was far sighted as thirty-five years later the line south from Stratford
on Avon was re-built with double track as part of its 1908 route to the West
Country.
