GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Small Heath and Sparkbrook Station: gwrsh1090

Ex-GWR 2-6-2T No 5104, a class 51xx 'Large Prairie' locomotive, is seen entering Small Heath's up relief platform on a Snow Hill to Leamington local passenger service. The island platform structures provided passenger accommodation including a general and ladies waiting room as well as toilets. Behind the last coach on the other side of the bridge Small Heath signal box can be seen. Built at Swindon works to Lot 257 in November 1929 No 5104 remained in service until November 1960 when it was withdrawn from St. Philips Marsh shed in Bristol to be scrapped in April 1961 at Swindon works.
