In this close up there is more evidence that the station has just been constructed and perhaps has yet to receive its first passengers. The Gentlemen's toilet was accessed via an entrance in the end gable wall of the building with the louvered windows providing an indication to their whereabouts and protected by a modesty screen. The lampposts on the platform and the lamps hanging from the canopy appear to be lit by oil which due to Shirley's then rural location is not a surprise.
