GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Shirley Station: gwrsh491a
Close up of image 'gwrsh491' showing the passenger buildings
on both platforms and the passenger footbridge which connected both platforms.
Both buildings were substantial and of a similar size and therefore the
platform canopy was formed by extending the roof. The barrow crossing used by
the porters was almost immediately below the passenger footbridge. The rodding
from the signal box to the down home starter signal and the trailing points
between the down and up lines can be seen running between the down platform and
track. The oil lit lamps seen in image 'gwrsh489' have been replaced by
substituting metal swan neck electrical lamps on top of the original cast iron
posts.
