GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Spring Road Platform: gwrsr1266
View of Spring Road station looking in the direction of
Tyseley as a railmotor arrives on a Moor Street to Stratford upon Avon service.
The distant signal seen on the opposite side to the railmotor with the bridge
abutment painted white behind the signal arm was controlled from Tyseley South
Signal Box. The Great Western Railway frequently painted white a solid
background behind signal arms in order to assist the drivers of locomotives to
see them more clearly, particularly at night or in inclement weather. Robert
Ferris writes, 'The postcard shows the pagoda waiting rooms on both sides of
Spring Road Platform before the Booking Office was constructed by the road at
the top of the ramp or the waiting rooms were changed. This view must therefore
portray the station in its original condition'.
