Close up of image 'gwrsr291' showing the main access to the station via the sloping path from the up platform to Spring Road and at the top the booking office. The booking office is believed to date from the opening of Spring Road Platform on 1st July 1908. This prefabricated building (22'4" x 9') has a substantial timber framing (4" x 3" timbers) and these are clad externally in 4" pitch corrugated galvanised steel sheeting and internally lined with wooden planking. Similar corrugated steel panels have also been used on the gable roof. Inside a floor to ceiling partition with a large glass window separates what was the passenger lobby area on the left from the slightly smaller booking clerk’s office on the right. There were two doors from the lobby area; one onto the street and the second leading directly onto the path. Each of the windows are identical reflecting the modular construction techniques being employed by the Great Western Railway at the time.
