GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Southam Road and Harbury: gwrsrh281a
This close up of image "gwrsrh281" shows an up goods
waiting in the refuge siding for the 'Right Away' after the fast milk train has
passed. The growth of traffic on the Birmingham - Oxford route compelled the
GWR to quadruple the route in the Birmingham area but costs were too heavy to
apply this solution to the remaining route. The solution was to construct
refuge sidings at intervals along the route where slow traffic could be shunted
until paths in the traffic allowed the train to move further down the line.
