The sliding doors for both rail and road access ensured the shed would be secure against petty theft. Inside the shed deck was accessed via rebated steps from the rail whilst to assist in off-loading there was the usual crane of 30cwt (1½ tons) capability. The checker's desk was located at the south end of the central cart bay and, in the south corner, the weighing machine. A flight of steps against the wall inside the shed led up to a lock-up above the office but this was hardly used after the 1930s. The projecting office had a wall-mounted desk across the end wall under the window. This was used by the station master, clerk and the checker. The walls at the back of the office had fitted shelves and a cupboard.
